Hi there!
My name is Vika, a 15-year-old who lives in Yaroslaval. The fifth session of this year’s English+ camp at MMC has begun and I’m excited to be a participant. This is my tenth time participating in this program and that should tell you how awesome this camp is. I can’t stop signing up because of the lasting memories I always get from here. I would like to share with you what transpired during the first day of the session.
My friend, Luba, and I have opted to join the helpers group this session, although we are both in the red crew. In the morning, we went for our radio broadcast during which we lit the spirit of everyone and ran them through the day’s routine. This is one of the many reasons I always choose MMC over others. There are several opportunities for you to improve your English skills. After this, we all met for a warmup and then returned to our rooms to clean up. Everyone was ready to begin the first full day of the camp. My crew had its first crew gathering discussing the expressions of the day. This is something we do to expand our vocabulary lists. The word for the day was ‘peril’ meaning ‘danger’ and the saying of the day was ‘…sail the seven seas’ which also means ‘…to travel around the world’.
After this time, we began our lessons with Sports during which we met our sports instructors, Kofi (Slava Boba) and Sasha (Sea Wolf). They took us during some lessons on rock climbing and roller surfing. We learnt new vocabulary which is related to these two sporting activities. However, there was an option to play volleyball if one doesn’t want to do any of the two sporting activities. I opted for volleyball because it was difficult for me to climb and ride. You see, the instructors here are understanding and free to make you enjoy yourself! After this lesson, we went to the Shipyard where we made treasure chest for our crafts with Polly (Parrot). It was fun to support other members of my crew to make their chest as it was their first time. I drew two jellyfish and an onca on my chest.
Our next activity was crew gathering. During this time, we played some games to learn more about each other. It was really an amazing time as we shared about ourselves with so much joy. English lesson followed this activity, and we all went our various classes. During this time, we introduced ourselves to our expeditionist, Obed (the crab), and designed our own ID cards. Now comes the time for lunch and rest. During the nap time, my friends and I were drawing Lenna tattoos. I got a jellyfish on my arm, and it was so cool. We met for our third crew gathering during which we were discussing the name and motto for our crew. It was funny as we all shared wonderful ideas. At the end we agreed on the name ‘Tefity Brig”.
The next activity for the day was our favourite Stations-at-Options. During this time, Sofa, my friend, and I visited the Shipyard where we learnt how to make several objects from paper (origame). Finally comes our evening event. I was so excited to lead some of the activities. At this time, we danced with sounds of joy and excitement as we spun in circles. It was fun and interesting. I am hoping for more exciting moments in the next days. I love MMC very much. It is the best camp!

Spending time with children is always a delight as it offers one a wonderful chance to rediscover and cherish childhood days. It is impossible to turn back time, but we are able to relive these revitalising moments because of the International Youth Camp at MMC, Nerekhta. As a native English Speaker from Ghana, a West African country, I signed up as a counsellor for this camp. Every day at MMC Camp is jam-packed with fascinating activities meant to captivate and motivate participants. Today was no different, providing the ideal balance of enjoyment, education, and friendship. A peek of our busy day is shown below.
Our day started with crew gathering, where we, captains and Cadets discussed the day’s agenda and shared our thoughts. This time is essential for building strong bonds among campers and fostering a sense of community. We have shared some information about ourselves in order to know each other better. It was wonderful to see each one opening up to share about their past, present and future, encouraging everyone to express themselves and listen to others. In the subsequent crew gathering, we discussed our name and motto. I really enjoyed how each person presented his/her idea while respecting the view of others even though they disagreed on some ideas. The sort of understanding among these young cadets is beyond words.
During our sports lesson, cadets were introduced to vocabulary on rock climbing and roller surfing. The atmosphere was exhilarating as cadets tried to complete the puzzles to know the words. I admired the supportive spirit of the team as they cheered on the very few who were finding difficulty with these two sporting activities. The smile on their faces signalled their appreciation after successfully completing these activities. In what followed was workshop where cadets prepared their own treasure chest. Everyone found it to be a great way to express their creativity and pick up some useful crafting techniques. The end products were striking, with every treasure box expressing the distinct aesthetic and individuality of its maker.
We had an enjoyable and instructive English lesson. Cadets participated in interactive exercises designed to enhance their language proficiency. The class plan included group discussions and vocabulary games to make it both enjoyable and educational. The campers relished the challenge and the chance to work on their English in a friendly setting.
Our evening event was the high point of the entire day. The camp came alive with a vibrant celebration under the stars as the sun descended. The air was full of laughter, dancing, and music as cadets joyfully danced, creating priceless memories and solidifying bonds with one another.
Today served as evidence of the variety and depth of experiences that MMC Camp provides. From the talks in the morning to the evening festivities, every activity made for a day of learning, enjoyment, and community. In the days to come, we’re excited for more experiences and quality time together!
