Performance Night Under the Palm

Nomad’s Story

Hi there!

My name is Kirill, a fifteen-years-old boy who lives in Moscow. This is my second time joining the camp here at MMC and I rate it as the best among all. Although we are here to have fun, I am impressed with the organization and the several activities we do here to improve ourselves.

Today was packed with exciting activities and new experiences. We started the day with our team huddle. We learned new phrases of the day and started rehearsing our performance. In the alchemy lab, we were made some candles in nutshells. On our English lesson, we discussed different occupations. On sport we had swimming pool and rock climbing.

We were shown a very funny performance from our forest campers. Then we rehearsed for our own performance. In the evening, we showed our play and watched other teams’ performances. I was a camel that ran away. At the end I lifted a heavy kettle bell.

We got first place. I was very happy! I invite you to join us and share in our excitment.

Vizier’s Story

Spending time with kids is always a delightful experience. While some may say it makes you act childish, I believe it’s a wonderful chance to relive and appreciate the joys of childhood. Reflecting on the past often brings back treasured memories from our early years—moments that can never be recreated, as time only moves forward. Thankfully, through the International Youth Camp here at MMC in Nerekhta, we are given the opportunity to revisit those refreshing and joyful moments once again.

I’m David Owusu-Mensah, a native English speaker from Ghana in West Africa, and proudly consider myself a global citizen. I travelled to Russia to pursue a master’s degree in Economics and Economic Policy at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow. Currently, I am working as a native English teacher in Moscow. However, I really look forward to moments of relaxation and fun, and that’s exactly what MMC offers. It provides the perfect opportunity to unwind, connect with others, and enjoy exciting, refreshing experiences that recharge both the mind and spirit. So buckle up as I delve into the exciting moments of our unforgettable camp adventure yesterday!

It was amazing to wake up to another refreshing morning here in our camp. You may ask, “What makes this so refreshing?” This year’s camp theme is about Arabian Fables and our main event today was for each team to introduce its name and motto. We began with our usual expressions of the day during which time kids were introduced and taught both vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. This is an edutainment way of teaching kids and making them fall in love with a foreign language. It thus wasn’t surprising to see each kid showing great enthusiasm to participate and learn something new.

We then explored another avenue of helping kids to practice their English using theatre arts. The kids came together to create a plot for their performance. I was thrilled to see these beautiful minds making arguments with the bank of vocabulary they’ve learned — it was an eye-saw! We continued with craft works in our Alchemy lab where we learned how to make waxnut candles. It was truly heartwarming to witness the kids immersed in the process—not just crafting candles, but also soaking up new vocabulary and phrases related to the activity. Words like crack, polish, solidify, and fragrance became part of their working vocabulary, and they used them confidently while communicating with one another.

Later, the kids gathered for their English lessons in different groups. It was wonderful to see them at this time so keen to improve themselves with the language. Each person was poised and ready to answer and ask questions. Later, teams gathered for the group meetings in preparation for the evening’s event. I could feel the enthusiasm in the whole camp as every nomad was exerting their most efforts to honor their team. Finally, the long-awaited time was here. We enjoyed every bit of the performances displayed by each class on stage. The most exciting thing was to see how all classes supported each other, an important trait that this world needs to advance itself being demonstrated by these young nomads. How inspiring this is!

I must admit that to miss camping at MMC during summer is to miss my favorite adventure of the year, full of unforgettable experiences, laughter and bonds that last a lifetime. It is an opportunity you don’t want to slide by. Join us for the next session and create your own cherished memories – you won’t regret it!
