We had workshop, capture the flag, funny games, archery and shooting. I liked all of them! Then we had stations at option. I went to play Capture the flag. It was fun and we were the winners. The food was also very very tasty. Also there was a dog, Altai. We played with him. It was really nice and happy. Then we were preparing for a Secret event. It was a disco of 80s. We put dresses on and wore makeup and made hairstyles. It was cool! I enjoyed the disco so much.

And I danced and jumped a lot. Our team members got jujus for the best costumes. And also we got a brick for the best teamwork! We made all the tasks and worked together. It was hard but we did it. I’m so happy that I’m in the blue tribe because we are cool and the best! I enjoyed the day! It made me happy!

My name is Keaton Toal. I am one of the two sports instructors here at MMC. My job is probably one of the most exciting and rewarding here at the camp. As an instructor, I get to see the children’s knowledge grow, not only in sports but in their language skills and their ability to work as a team. Our usual days involve different activities, such as Rock Climbing, Basketball, Floorball, Roller Surf, and other sports. Today, however, was a special day. We took a trip to our forest camp where we had archery and target shooting. Each of the children were well behaved, and they never questioned the instruction given to them from me and my partner Vlad. It was especially rewarding to see each of them successfully hit the target during out lessons. While this is a small victory it is a victory nonetheless. The other instructors and I saw that the children enjoyed archery very much, therefore during stations, we allowed them to attend the lesson once again.
Something that amazes me is the level at which some of the children can speak English. I only started learning Russian two years ago in university and many of the kids can speak English much better than I can speak Russian. Regardless of how well they speak English, their character stands out most of all. Each child brings a different aspect to a team (Tribe), and I look forward to seeing them open up more as we near the end of this camp session. Sadly, I will have to say goodbye to these children soon, but their dedication, excitement, and happiness has left its mark in my memory.
