We are PTG/APOLLO, 9 people who come form different countries Anja(Denmark) Molly(Ireland) Alicia(Brazil) Emil(Denmark) Anton(Estonia) Marco(Angola) Frank(Spain) Emese(Hungary) and Justas(Lithuania). We all live in Denmark. In PTG a boarding school for youth from all walks of life, where you gain hands on experience in practical tasks, including others and living together. Apollo is a Care home close by who joins us everyday of the week to cooperate in a Day school. We have 2 study travels per year our motto being »Learn to Travel, Travel to Learn’’. Why Russia you may ask? Well because we want to learn about your rich culture, your people and see for ourselves what this big vast country is all about because we hear a lot in our media about Politics, War and so on.. Our trip will be for almost 3 weeks and we will join a project to paint our mark in a children’s hospital, Split into groups and investigate topics of interest to us, and funny story we accidentally ended up here in MMC and feel very lucky to have done so, when we arrived we didn’t know what to expect we knew it was centre for youth and we knew that the volunteers would speak english. When the kids came for the ‘’Party Weekend’’ program we started to get to know them and quickly started to feel like part of the camp. The food and cooks have been great. We have spent much of our time in their beautiful naturally lit Art room where creativity just seems to flow out of you! Good vibes in the mornings when you hear good tunes coming form the corridors all over the camp. We were very lucky with the weather the sun was out almost all of the time.
I think one highlight for all of us was Open Mic night where we experienced many different arts, good energy and laughter — that it was an Open Mic and not a Talent Show meant that each person was free to use the stage for anything in their mind or heart without being judged and you really felt this difference.
»The game’’ a chance for us to share as Team Russia and Team international about topics such as Culture, Politics, Geography and stereotypes in each of our countries. It was a good chance for us to learn about each other and it worked very well and turned out to be very funny!
We were able to show our circus skills to the kids and they liked it and learned fast. It was great for us to be able to take responsibilities as a group and individually we really enjoyed it and interacting with the kids.
Of course none of this could have been possible without the councillors Dasha, Aylonia, Neks, Sappo and Dima (sorry if we misspelled yo names). They are all so amazing. They were all completely dedicated to taking care of the youth, working night and day to make an excellent program, they show deep care for the kids and making sure they have a good time. At the same time making sure we felt welcomed and included. Apart from that they were just truly cool people and nice to be around. We are all so glad we met them and i think we have learned good things from them.
We would like to thank you all for hosting us here and giving us space to work on our other project and be apart of this one!
We had a lot of fun and would really like to come back and some point in the future(in the summer).
